Continuing the tradition that began in the second story lounge of The Van Dyke Café, located at 846 Lincoln Road, Upstairs at The Van Dyke is the only venue to catch live jazz acts on the Art Deco pedestrian walking mall. But Upstairs at The Van Dyke no longer limits itself to one musical genre. Now under the musical direction of Randy Singer and Luca Voltarel, and staffed by acoustic engineers from Sonic Nerve, the room boasts an eclectic mix of local and national live music acts that, in addition to jazz, range from funk and Brazilian samba to soul and R&B.
We are committed to providing music fans with the best live music and venue experience possible,” says Singer, an internationally acclaimed musician and Music Director of Upstairs at The Van Dyke.
Regular acts include Nicole Henry, internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist; Iko Iko, blues and acoustic funk; Lanzallamas!, high-energy world fusion; Raging Geisha, rock, hip-hop and pop; Jose Val, Spanish singer and composer; Randy Bernsen, jazz guitarist; Rose Max, “Brazilian Samba Party” and many more. There certainly is something for every musical taste. Plus, there’s never a cover!
Upstairs at The Van Dyke is also a terrific venue to host events, from business functions to record company showcases to friends’ birthday parties. With a warm and welcoming interior that echoes the dark woods downstairs, the space has been refurbished with a new full-service bar, a state-of-the-art sound system and a grand piano. Guests can also order small plates from a full service menu to complement their beverage.
Voltarel commented, “We are proud of the physical changes to the lounge and the variety of artists on our new lineup, and we look forward to adding to the rich musical history of The Van Dyke.
Featuring live musicians every night of the week, Upstairs at The Van Dyke is open from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. You may view the monthly entertainment calendar, and enjoy live streaming video and audio of select acts at www.thevandykecafe.com.
